About Sam

Trumpet player, Sam Atlas, is a freelance musician in New York City. She has performed with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, and as principal trumpet with the Manhattan School of Music's Opus 130 Orchestra, and the Oberlin Orchestra. She remains on the sub lists for several orchestras including the New World Symphony and Symphony in C.

 

In addition to her orchestral performances, Sam is one of the founding members of Mahogany Brass, a touring brass quintet performing guest recitals and giving masterclasses at institutions such as the University of Massachusetts.

 

As an avid educator, Sam has created and maintained a small trumpet studio since 2017, taught general music in Connecticut, and served as a section leader of the University of Miami’s Frost Band of the Hour. She has also taught at the Community Music School in Oberlin, Ohio and is now on faculty at the Larchmont Music Academy and Virtu Academy. Most recently, she taught local community members while attending the Aspen Music Festival. ​

Sam is obtaining her Master of Music in Orchestral Performance at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Ethan Bensdorf. She completed her Bachelor of Music at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Roy Poper.
